Music & Morsels: “Conversations between Clarinet and Cello”
Wednesday, November 2 ~ 1-2pm (PT) on Zoom
At first glance, the clarinet and cello make an unusual pair — there’s quite a contrast in how composers write for the instruments. Yet as this duo program progresses, Matthew Boyles, clarinet and James Jaffe, cello unveil how both instruments share a vocal sound and a true sense of fun. We’ll begin with solo works by Igor Stravinsky and Benjamin Britten, then continue with stunning keyboard transcriptions of Frederic Chopin and J.S. Bach. The end of the program is lighthearted and rhythmic: duos by Morton Gould (for his friend Benny Goodman) and Swedish cello star Svante Henryson.
